Hi! Today we’re talking about one of the biggest threats online — phishing.
What is it, and how do you avoid becoming a victim?
Let’s break it down.
Phishing is when scammers try to get your personal information — passwords, bank card numbers, and the like. They build fake websites that look real, or send messages as if from well-known companies, so you’ll enter your data.
Why do they want it? With your details, they can take money from your accounts, take out loans in your name, or sell your data on the black market.
Why is it dangerous?
- Your money is at risk. Scammers can withdraw funds from your bank accounts.
- Loans in your name. Criminals can use your data to apply for credit.
- Your data for sale. Your personal information can be sold to other scammers.
How do scammers operate?
Scammers keep inventing new tricks — so stay alert online. They build full schemes and, posing as trusted organizations, create fake sites that closely mimic the real ones.
- Fake websites. They copy real sites to trick you into handing over your data.
- Emails and messages. Scammers send messages asking you to enter personal details, passwords, or bank card numbers.
1. Perfect copy
2. Personal data
3. Money lost
How to protect yourself?
Stay on guard. Your personal data is the key to your security — protect it, and scammers have a much harder time.
- Check the website URL. Better yet, type it into a search engine to confirm it’s the real site.
- Don’t open suspicious emails, messages, or attachments.
- Tempting “quick money” offers are 99.9% scams!
- Check that sites are genuine. The address must start with https://, not http://.
- Install reliable antivirus software and make sure it stays up to date and running.
If you suspect you’ve fallen for a phishing site (you entered bank or personal details), contact the police and your bank right away and report it!
